Cuscowilla Nature & Retreat Center
Nestled near the historic Paynes Prairie and the charming town of Micanopy, Alachua County’s Cuscowilla Nature and Retreat Center offers a unique opportunity to connect with natural beauty while honoring the Seminole heritage of the area.
Purchased in 2017 using the voter-approved Wild Spaces Public Places surtax, this 211-acre property—formerly YMCA Camp McConnell—has been thoughtfully developed to balance recreation, conservation, and cultural significance. With ongoing investments in its facilities, Cuscowilla is evolving into a cherished community resource for leisure, learning, and connection.
The county remains steadfast in its commitment to enhancing Cuscowilla as a destination for all residents and visitors. Whether it’s enjoying the Olympic-sized pool during the summer season, exploring primitive camping options, or hosting events at one of the rental facilities, the retreat center is designed to meet diverse community needs. As current improvements progress toward the project's completion in 2026, public input will continue to play a vital role in shaping the property’s future enhancements and programming.
