Alachua County Celebrates Major Road Infrastructure Milestones in 2025

As 2025 concludes, Alachua County proudly announces significant advancements in its Transportation Capital Improvement Program (TCIP). Building upon the momentum from 2024, the county has completed 14 major road projects totaling approximately $28 million, with an additional $15 million allocated to projects currently in progress.

Highlights of 2025 Road Projects

  • County Road 234: A comprehensive $5.92 million rehabilitation project was finalized, enhancing safety and traffic flow along this vital corridor.

  • Northeast/Northwest 53rd Avenue: This $7.53 million initiative introduced new turn lanes and a multi-use path, significantly improving connectivity for both motorists and pedestrians.

  • Southwest 20th Avenue – “Paths to Opportunity”: With the aid of a $1.4 million federal grant, the county completed the design phase of this Complete Streets project. The plan includes separated bike lanes, wide sidewalks, and enhanced transit access, aiming to better serve the underserved SWAG community.

  • Northwest 86th Drive Extension: In collaboration with the City of Alachua, this project extended NW 86th Drive to connect with U.S. Highway 441, improving emergency response times and supporting future development in the San Felasco Tech City area.

Ongoing and Future Initiatives

The county continues to prioritize road safety and infrastructure improvements:

  • SW 170th Street (CR 241): The $4.7 million widening and resurfacing project is nearing completion, enhancing safety from SW 143rd Avenue to the Levy County line.

  • Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Projects: With $880,000 in federal funding, the county is advancing safety analyses and demonstration projects on N 16th Avenue and SW 20th Avenue to reduce traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries.

Commitment to Infrastructure Investment

Alachua County remains dedicated to investing over $250 million in road projects through 2032, funded by a combination of local surtaxes, gas taxes, property taxes, and federal grants. These efforts aim to enhance the quality of life for all residents by improving transportation infrastructure and safety.
