This project is located within the City of Avondale’s Friendship Park, situated between Interstate 10 (I-10) and McDowell Road adjacent to the east side of the Agua Fria River. Project scope includes the construction of a multiuse path with associated amenities leading to a future pedestrian bridge going south over an Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) drainage channel to connect with an existing portion of Avondale’s Trail System going under I-10. The project’s construction will consist of earthwork, hardscape, landscaping, irrigation, electrical, and security. These improvements will complete the pedestrian sidewalk loop within the park around soccer fields #9 and #10 and become part of the city’s trail system which also connects to a regional trail system. The city is informing the public of this project as part of the city's development of a citywide trail system. Each portion of the trail that is completed brings the city closer to a citywide trail system. The project is currently in the site investigation phase and is seeking public input by 8.31.26. Design is scheduled to start this fall and complete spring of 2027. The project is then scheduled for the bidding phase to be completed in summer 2027. Construction is scheduled to start in fall 2027 and complete in winter 2028.
