Green for Good Grant

The Green for Good Grant program provides up to $5,000 to eligible, competitive applicants planning to initiate or enhance sustainable community actions. Specifically, this grant seeks to:

  1. Support actions that directly increase Avondale’s environmental resilience AND
  2. Provide clear, measurable benefits to the Avondale community.

Projects must also promote at least one of the following Sustainability Pathways as outlined in the City of Avondale’s Community Sustainability Plan:
• Clean Transportation
• Resilience to Extreme Heat
• Reliable Water Supply
• Efficient Buildings and Renewable Energy
• Healthy Environment
• Waste as a Resource
• Fresh Food for All

Program Overview

Who is eligible to apply?
Individuals, non-profit organizations, community and educational groups, homeowners’ associations, churches, schools, and businesses are all eligible to apply.

What projects are eligible for funding?
Educational projects, infrastructure projects, research or experimental projects, operational projects, or events are all eligible activities. Projects must meet grant goals and promote at least one eligible sustainability pathway. Project location must be within Avondale city limits and/or serve Avondale residents.

How do I apply?
Applications open on February 24, 2026 and must be submitted by 11:59PM on April 3, 2026 through the online form: Application Link

For your convenience, a word document with application questions has been provided (available under the supporting documents section). Applicants may use this document to prepare and save responses, however, all final submissions must be completed through the online application form by the application deadline. Late submissions will not be accepted.

What are the requirements if awarded?
Selected recipients must agree to terms and conditions outlined in the Green for Good Guideline Document, sign an agreement, and provide a completed W-9 tax form. Additionally, recipients must submit brief quarterly progress reports and a final report to the City.

How are applications reviewed and awarded?
Applications are screened for eligibility by City employees, then scored by the City of Avondale’s Sustainability Commission using the Green for Good Grant Scoring Rubric (available under the supporting documents section).

Grant awards will be presented to City Council and the June 1, 2026 meeting.

City staff will review the grant guidelines, application process, scoring criteria, and answer any questions that you may have.
