Median 3 -Avenue of Flags
Efforts and investment to transform the Avenue of Flags area have gained momentum in the past few years, guided by the 2017 Avenue of Flags Specific Plan. Median 3 is at the center of the envisioned downtown core, planned to be a unique public gathering space that functions as a town plaza and park. Amenities identified in the Specific Plan include an amphitheater, public restroom, shade structures, open landscaped area, trees and drought-tolerant plantings, vendor kiosks, and small community building that could house a visitor’s center, museum, or other desired uses. The Art Deco architectural style should be woven throughout the design, from buildings and structures to smaller details in street furnishings, lighting, pavement, and tree grates.
Over the last year, Staff has worked with an intern, Ioanna Bruno, a recently graduated Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Landscape Architect student, to create Conceptual Plans for Median 3
