Gauthier Sewer Project
The Gauthier Sewer Project, also known as the Southern Sewer Loop, will expand sanitary sewer services to south Lake Charles, yielding quality of life and economic benefits.
It involves improvements to the existing system serving the Lake Charles Regional Airport, and new additions to the system including over 20,000 linear feet of gravity sewer pipe and the construction of seven lift stations, ultimately terminating at the existing sewer plant on West Tank Farm Road in south Lake Charles.
Lift stations in a wastewater network pump sewage from lower to higher elevations, allowing it to flow by gravity to a treatment plant. This is especially important in flat areas like South Lake Charles, where natural downhill flow is not typically possible.
Sewer projects in already developed areas can be challenging, involving coordination with existing utilities, right of way considerations, and involvement with multiple jurisdictions. By establishing a wastewater corridor, this project will serve as the backbone for future sewer services and provide opportunity for citizens utilizing mechanical systems to connect to public wastewater utility services.
This is being funded with both local parish funds and state funds from the Capital Outlay Program. Completion of the Gauthier Sewer Project is set to bring long-term benefits to our community.
