2026 Annual Budget
At its November 20 meeting, the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Budget Committee received the proposed Fiscal Year 2026 budget, which reflects a continued shift from hurricane recovery to long-term investments in resilience, infrastructure, and quality of life. At the December 18 Regular Meeting, the Police Jury formally adopted the 2026 Annual Budget.
The budget totals $379,623,652, which is an increase of 7.96%, over the amended FY2025 budget. The majority of this increase is driven by $180.7 milllion in capital projects and $21.4 million in disaster recovery efforts. Operational expenditures are budgeted to increase by 2.66%, which includes a 4.5% average wage adjustment as well as costs related to various operational activities. Revenues from sales tax, property tax, and gaming proceeds remain steady and are conservatively budgeted for 2026.
Major capital projects planned for 2026 include the Carlyss Drive Extension (Phase 2), Opelousas Street Reconstruction, and the Big-Woods Starks Road Bridge Replacement. The budget also supports continued investment in drainage, water and sewer infrastructure, and parish parks.

Departmental Budget Preparation
The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s budget process begins in September with departments submitting projections, goals, and detailed budget needs. Administration and Finance review this information to create a recommended Operating and Capital Budget, presented to the Budget Committee in November. After a public hearing in early December, the Committee makes recommendations to the full Police Jury, which votes to adopt the budget effective January 1.
