Tiered Billing for Water & Sewer Customers

In line with Calvert County's commitment to transparent and responsive service delivery, we are initiating the move towards a more equitable and effective billing structure for our water and sewer services. Following a comprehensive rate study and vital feedback from you, our valued residents, we are proposing a transition to a tiered billing approach. This model takes into account the actual water usage of each household, with a system designed to foster responsibility and efficiency in our water consumption habits.

At present, water and sewer services are billed quarterly, with charges computed based on a base rate combined with a variable rate reflecting actual usage, applying the same variable rate to everyone, regardless of consumption. The proposed tiered structure, however, introduces a quarterly base rate augmented by a four-tier variable rate system. This structure encourages water conservation by rewarding lower usage with lower rates, thereby influencing more sustainable practices and providing savings to households that prioritize water stewardship.
