Because the project will include environmental remediation as well as road removal, a multi-year schedule is needed. Based on the data collection, an environmental remediation plan will be prepared in 2025, with implementation of marsh restoration expected from December 2025-April 2026. This work will be done in tidal areas and the work window is specified in federal regulations. A year will be needed to allow the remediation work to be established during a growing season.
Concurrently, the towns will perform necessary surveying, geotechnical work, and legal requirements to prepare for road removal. Design and issuance of bids for road removal are expected January 2025 - January 2026. Turnarounds should be constructed in Fall 2026, and actual removal of the road bed will be done during December 2026 - February 2027. Following roadbed removal, environmental remediation of the roadbed is planned for February 2027-April 2027. Project completion also includes up to 7 years of monitoring.
