The Fort Williams Park Master Plan Update 2021, which underwent a year-long meticulous process, was unanimously approved by the Town Council on November 8, 2021. The process was initiated by the Fort Williams Park Committee back in September 2020, marked by numerous meetings and extensive community engagement through surveys and stakeholder interactions. These endeavors were focused on enriching our understanding of community needs and opinions, cementing our commitment to democratic decision-making processes that value our residents' voices.
The insights drawn from these extensive public engagement efforts assisted in setting three cardinal goals for the Master Plan Update - enhancing the park for year-round community enjoyment, advancing safe and easy access for guests, and preserving and enhancing the park's natural, scenic, and historical resources. Additionally, although not a “goal” of the Master Plan Update, the Fort Williams Park Committee recongnizes the need to establish a long-term sustainability budget (or endowment) to maintain the quality of the Fort Williams park experience.
Ultimately, there are close to 80 specific recommendations that range from relatively simple and affordable to complex. The Fort Williams Park Committee believes that the Fort Williams Master Plan Update will provide a roadmap and framework to guide the execution of ongoing efforts and the implementation of new investments.
