Tanglewood / Irongate / Park Street

Corridor study (Collectors)

Cary has received input from multiple residents in the Tanglewood, Irongate and Park Street communities expressing concerns related to the volume and speed of vehicle traffic moving through the area. Staff noted that these neighborhoods, while diverse in many aspects, represent an inter-related transportation network. Accordingly, our approach to mobility in this area, and specifically traffic calming, will need to be holistic, while also addressing the individual needs of each community. Any input can be provided by emailing the Cary Project Manager using the link below.

Cary staff have identified a series of data collection sites within this neighborhood, specifically along Tanglewood Drive, Ryan Road, Holtz Lane, Sloan Drive, East Park Street and West Park Street. Traffic data from September 2022 was collected and reviewed by staff and is presented in the Supporting Documents section. Data results are shown on the Data Collection Exhibits and Overall Plan and staff have prepared a Traffic Summary Report to present and discuss the data. All documents are available on this project page.

In order to understand how residents view this data and to better compile feedback, Cary staff have also conducted a web survey open to all users of these transportation corridors. The results from this survey have been aggregated and organized into localized neighborhood groups to assist staff in developing recommendations to improve mobility for all users, including cyclists, pedestrians and vehicles. Prior to developing any concepts, we want to better understand the needs and wants of the citizens using these facilities. The Survey Results are available in the Supporting Documents section, along with a Comment Response document prepared by staff to discuss the results and how they inform the next steps.

Through this survey, a number of citizens have offered to be part of the traffic calming process. We will be working with those individuals as points of contact to help disseminate information to the community and act as a bridge between Cary staff and the neighborhood moving forward. In additional all updates will be posted to this project page and all citizens are welcome to reach out to the Cary Project Manager using the link near the bottom of this page.

Staff are currently working to develop a comprehensive traffic calming concept as discused in the Comment Response document. Updates will be provided to community members and posted here for input when available.
