Scottish Hills
(Collector) Brookgreen Drive & Tarbert Drive
Cary received citizen-initiated applications for traffic calming within the Scottish Hills community, along Brookgreen Drive and Tarbert Drive. This corridor connects several neighborhoods to Cary Parkway and Maynard Road, via Lake Pine Drive. Based on traffic data collected, a concept design for traffic calming is being developed along Brookgreen Drive to help reinforce the neighborhood context. Residents will be offered an opportunity to review and provide feedback on the design.
Data collected along Tarbert Drive did not warrant a recommendation for traffic calming from staff.
Cary has responded to traffic safety concerns from Scottish Hills community members by evaluating Brookgreen Drive and Tarbert Drive for traffic calming. This evaluation, presented and discussed in the Traffic Data Summary posted to the Supporting Documents section, resulted in an initial recommendation by staff for traffic calming along Brookgreen Drive only.
Brookgreen Drive and Tarbert Drive serve as both access routes to the Scottish Hills community and critical links that support connectivity in the larger transportation network. In an effort to balance this community's neighborhood character with these corridors' roles in providing for emergency vehicle access and the efficient movement of people and goods, staff rely on data to develop recommended solutions.
At this time, Cary staff are developing a concept to construct traffic calming (speed humps) along Brookgreen Drive.
Upon completion, the concept design for this corridor will be available for review and input from all interested citizens. Project updates will be posted here as they become available and all are encouraged to provide input directly using the email link below.
Cary staff are happy to meet directly with community representatives as we move through this process.
