Sears Farm Road

(Collector) Strathorn Drive to Green Hope School Road

Cary has heard concerns regarding the traffic conditions along Sears Farm Road in the Highcroft and Oaks neighborhoods, adjacent to the Reserve.  This corridor serves and connects several communities so staff have developed design that we believe incorporates the needs/wants of the community and will enhance the mobility of pedestrians and cyclists, while still supporting the vehicle traffic commensurate with a Collector Street.  Any input can be provided by emailing the Cary Project Manager using the link below.

We have developed a preliminary concept, used that to understand the community's interest in traffic calming, and tailored our design based on the feedback received.  Cary constructed the improvements in conjuction with the annual resurfacing program.  Residents we believe will be directly impacted were included in the project influence area, but we encourage all effected citizens to review the project documents and provide input.  The final design included:

  • Pavement markings to improve the facility for cyclists
  • High visibility crosswalks to enhance pedestrian connectivity
  • Lane narrowing and speed humps to calm vehicle traffic by reinforcing the posted speed limit
  • Traffic signage and delineation to support all of the above.

Please note that, based on feedback received, a concrete raised median at the intersection with Edgemore Avenue has been removed from the project and replaced with pavement striping.

We encourage you to review the traffic data summary, bid plans and planning estimate to understand the scope of this project.  We do not currently have a survey open on this project so any feedback can be provided by emailing the Cary Project Manager directly using the link below.

Based on the community preference demonstrated in our survey, project updates will be provided to HOA and neighborhood representatives, as well as being posted here.  Cary staff are happy to meet directly with community representatives as we move through this process.

Staff are recommending that, as a Collector Street project, these improvements be funded 100% by Cary.
