Olde Weatherstone Way
(Collector) NW Cary Parkway to Crigan Bluff Drive
Cary has heard concerns regarding the traffic conditions along Olde Weatherstone Way, particularly near the Glenkirk Greenway. This corridor serves and connects several communities so staff developed a concept to enhance the mobility of pedestrians and cyclists, while still supporting the vehicle traffic and emergency access commensurate with a Collector Avenue.
Cary has responded to traffic safety concerns from community members by evaluating Olde Weatherstone Way for traffic calming. This evaluation, presented and discussed in the Traffic Data Summary posted to the Supporting Documents section, resulted in an initial recommendation by staff for traffic calming.
Staff developed this into a Concept Design to exhibit Cary's suggestions for traffic calming (speed humps) along this corridor and to facilitate discussions with affected citizens. This design was reviewed by Cary's Traffic Calming Safety Committee to ensure that impacts to access and emergency services are minimized and acceptable.
As the most critical aspect of a successful traffic calming project, staff also reached out to gather input and understand the consensus of the residents of Glenkirk and the surrounding area, confirming support for the project. Those we believe would be directly impacted by this project were included in the project Influence Area, but all impacted citizens are encouraged to engage in the process.
The results from the survey and some of the feedback received are available in the Supporting Documents section. Citizens are encouraged to review the Survey Results and Comment Response documents. Based on those, Cary staff proceeded with construction of this traffic calming project.
Any additional feedback can be provided by emailing the Cary Project Manager using the link below. Project updates are posted here as they become available.
Cary staff are happy to meet directly with community representatives as we move through this process.
