Proposed Relocation of CBE Home Education

A recommendation is being put forward to the CBE Board of Trustees to relocate CBE Home Education to Bel-Aire School starting in the 2025-26 school year.

Serving students from across the city, CBE Home Education provides an important program choice for families. Given the learning space available within Bel-Aire School and its proximity to the current CBE Home Education location, the CBE is confident the quality of programming can be maintained in this relocation with minimal disruption to families.

The relocation is important in helping the CBE relieve pressure and balance enrolment at other nearby schools, creating a more equitable learning experience for students across all affected schools. Learn more about the full redesignation plan .

This opportunity is possible now because the former Bel-Aire School was recently returned to the CBE from charter school use. This has opened up more than 200 spaces for CBE students. This is a welcome development given the high rate of growth in the Windsor Park and other nearby communities.

The CBE remains committed to maintaining a high quality CBE Home Education program. We invite CBE Home Education families to share your perspectives with us on how we can provide a smooth transition for students and families, should the Board of Trustees approve this recommendation.

An online survey was available Oct. 17 - 31, 2024 for parents, students and community members to share their thoughts on transition planning. The perspectives provided in this survey, and a similar survey for CBE Home Education staff, have been shared in the recommendation report presented to the CBE Board of Trustees for discussion at their Dec. 17, 2024 public meeting. The results of the survey for parents, students and community members are posted in Supporting Documents on the right.

The decision about whether or not to move the program is expected to be made by the Board of Trustees in February 2025, in alignment with GC-3E(2): Closure of Schools Procedure.
