Comprehensive Plan
Charles County is starting the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan, which is required every 10 years. The 2026 Comprehensive Plan process will focus on equitable participation.
This update will be ongoing for at least two years and will involve careful planning, analysis, and a focus on community involvement. The updated plan will look at where growth is expected over the next 25 years and what infrastructure will be needed to support said growth.
The plan will also decide which types of development are best suited for different areas, with a focus on commercial and mixed-use projects, and which areas should be targeted for conservation or resource protection. Furthermore, it will include policies and programs that explore the types and locations of housing necessary to meet the needs of both current and future residents.
Community Engagement
Visit the Comprehensive Plan website to learn more about this project and participate in the public survey to help shape the future of our county! The survey seeks to gather public input on key topics, including land use, transportation, housing, the environment, economic development, and community facilities. Your input is important to ensure that we are developing a plan that reflects the shared vision of our diverse community.
