Mallows Bay Heritage Center
The Department of Recreation, Parks & Tourism, in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the State of Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), is no longer pursuing the development of a Heritage Center at the Mallows Bay-Potomac River National Marine Sanctuary. Instead, the County is assessing other potential enhancements within the sanctuary to better serve the community and visitors.
These enhancements aim to highlight the sanctuary's historical, cultural, and natural resources while improving accessibility, educational opportunities, and amenities for visitors. Charles County has received $5 million in federal grant funding to support pre-construction and design efforts for these future improvements, ensuring Mallows Bay remains a focal point for outdoor recreation and tourism, with significant economic benefits for the community.
