New Charles County Animal Care Center

The Charles County Board of Commissioners and Department of Emergency Services are pleased to announce that groundbreaking has begun for the new Animal Care Center.

The current animal shelter has served the community for over 60 years, but its age and remote location present limitations. This new facility will house both divisions of Animal Control Services: the Animal Control Division and the Animal Sheltering Division. The new Animal Care Center will enhance animal care, improve accessibility, and encourage greater community engagement.

The new facility will be located at 5690 Piney Church Road, Waldorf, MD 20602. The new facility is approximately 22,000 square feet and features soundproofing, a medical clinic, an education room available to other county departments and the community, and more.
