The Charter Government Process v1
Charles County is exploring a pivotal transformation that could reshape local governance. A Charter Board was convened in June 2023 to meet regularly and develop a charter document that would change the structure of Charles County government from Code Home Rule to a Charter form of government. This draft charter will define the new structure of local government and how it operates -- its powers, duties, rules, procedures, and responsibilities. Voters will consider this charter for approval during the general election in November 2024.
We welcome your input and feedback throughout this process, to create the charter together. For more information, visit Charles County's Charter Board website.
