Have your say about Christmas in Cirencester 2022

Cirencester is full of Christmas cheer and Cirencester Town Council is undertaking a post-event survey, to collate feedback from businesses, traders, and visitors about the Advent Markets, Light Switch On, and Christmas Markets.

The festivities kicked off on November 26th with the Advent Markets & Light Switch On. Thousands came to the town to visit the extended market, to see performances in the Parish church, and be part of the first ‘in person’ Christmas lights switch-on since 2019. There followed another extended market with street entertainment on Sunday 27th November with the first of the town’s weekend Christmas Markets held on the Market Place on the 3rd & 4th of December.

As well as a full programme of live performances featuring local talent, the Advent weekend also included a visit from Santa and his support team from Cirencester Round Table, Victorian carol singers, Nutcracker Soldier stilt walkers, snow machines, and pop-up street performances. Vernon Harwood compered the event and introduced the official switch-on of the lights, which was accompanied by festive carol signing and silent fireworks from the church tower.

The events were organised by Cirencester Town Council, assisted by a generous sponsorship from local businesses, including main sponsors, Sewell Mullings Logie solicitors, to celebrate Christmas and bring additional visitors into the town. Other sponsors included Watermoor Point, Rangeford Villages – Siddington Park, Cain and Fuller, Wenn Townsend, and Alison Fielden & Co.

Becky Coles, Community Services Manager said: “We’re delighted to have been able to deliver our full schedule of Christmas events this year, after the restrictions of Covid, and then the disappointment of cancelling last year’s event due to Storm Arwen. It was great to see so many people enjoying themselves, creating such a wonderful atmosphere, and bringing a boost to trade across the town. We know this is a really important time of year for local businesses and we are very pleased with the extra footfall the events generated, we have had such positive feedback and look forward to working on next year’s event.”
