What you told us

Initial engagement findings. Safer Streets Initial Consultation

From June - September 2021 we held an initial consultation on our Safer Streets Map.

We wanted to know how safe you felt in the area, why that was, and what the Council could do to help.

You told us...

From over 3,000 responses on the site we were able to identify areas of concern for everyone, but particularly for women, LGBTQ+, ethnic minorities, and other vulnerable groups.

  • Location X generated 102 comments with 80% of respondents saying they would it avoid it at night
  • Location Y was identified as a key problem area - alleyways, lack of bystanders
  • Respondents indicated a change in their behaviour to avoid certain areas.
  • The graph shows the reasons respondents gave for avoiding Location X due to safety concerns.

    Interventions

We also wanted to know what could be done to make people feel safer in the areas they identified.

The graph shows the top 10 most popular interventions given by respondents, matched to their sentiment of the place, where red is unsafe and green is safe.
