Next Steps
When:
Starts 27 February and will take approx. 9 months
Preliminary works
Ecological mitigation and Archaeological works will take place first and the works area will be fenced off for safety
First thing people will see is site set up and people in high-vis jackets. There will be a small site office and compound but not on the scale of the construction ones
- Works traffic will include cars, diggers and dumpers.
- 33 hectares of land being investigated
- 27 research areas
At the peak, there may be between 60/70 people working over the different sites
All work will be overseen by the County archaeologist and Historic England
Topsoil will be stripped by machine and stored on-site. This will be reused on the project, e.g. landscaping
Once complete, excavations will be left open as there is no point filling them as we will continue to work on them, but the areas will be left safe so that there is no danger to members of the public or wildlife.
Where:
There are 27 research areas along the A417
Oxford-Cotswold Archaeology are very pleased to be supporting National Highways and Kier on the A417 Missing Link Project, and look forward to delivering an exciting programme of archaeological mitigation. The landscape is rich with archaeological potential and we hope to be able to share some brilliant discoveries soon.
