COMMUNITY-FOCUSED & RELATIONSHIP-DRIVEN

Community Safety Partnership (CSP) officers address the root causes of crime through a commitment to relationship-building rather than relying solely on traditional crime suppression methods. Relationships are fostered through a commitment to fair and kind treatment of community members, as well as the genuine demonstration of care and compassion for the overall health of the community. The CSP officers are entrusted to build sustained, generational relationships, and work in collaboration with community members and stakeholders to address long-term problems. The relationship-building strategy is intentional and extends to those in the community who may be “hardest to reach.”

CSP officers operate within a team of internal and external partners that co-craft and jointly deliver a wrap-around public safety plan tailored to fit the needs and reflect the unique qualities of the community within each respective CSP Neighborhood Engagement Area.

THE MISSION

The mission of the Community Safety Partnership Bureau is to use community relationship strategies to strengthen trust between law enforcement and the community. The development of long-term relationships, enhanced community capacity, and community partnering lead to decreased crime and improved community perception of safety.

THE VISION

It is the vision of the Community Safety Partnership Bureau for the communities in and around the CSP Neighborhood Engagement Areas (NEAs) to sustain long-term community development and to maintain safe, thriving, and healthy communities. It is our belief that all families should live in peace, feel safe in their surroundings, and experience a healthy quality of life.

PARTNERSHIPS

The Community Safety Partnership represents a team strategy designed to deal with complex community problems that cannot be resolved through traditional law enforcement practices alone. Our commitment to establishing partnerships is rooted in our belief that the police cannot solve public safety problems alone, but rather the police and the community must work together as partners, through collaboration and coordination, to address the dynamic public safety challenges in the communities we serve.

This spirit of collaboration, of shared responsibility, and of mutual respect and understanding is no more important than in our current time and it must begin with open, cooperative discussions between community members and police officers to help resolve or improve the conditions that contribute to violence and its resulting trauma. Thus, tackling complex public safety problems requires strategic partners to assist in the development and delivery of comprehensive solutions.

Through the development of partnerships, traditional law enforcement strategies are linked with prevention, intervention, and community-building investment strategies. The strategies employed are based on a collaborative approach to identifying shared values that ultimately improve safety and support our fundamental duty to prevent and deter crime. As such, police officers, residents, community stakeholders, and City partners counter long-standing and emerging public safety-related threats with courage, wisdom, compassion, and a commitment to teamwork. Through this process, community capacity is enhanced, and community leadership is revealed, which enables community voice and strengthens resiliency.
