Strategic Planning meeting (1/30) recap

Recap of the city commission's strategic plan update kickoff meeting

City Commissioners kicked off their first meeting to kick off the Strategic Plan update.

City Manager Michael Pleus outlined the process for the upcoming year and introduced the Steering Committee, comprised of 21 residents, which will help the commission reshape the city's Strategic Plan.

Commissioners then outlined several items the city should look to explore/address as it revamps the strategic plan:

  • How do we modernize the plan to be in line with our community today?
  • How do we define sense of community?
  • How do we grow appropriately?
  • Affordable housing
  • Homelessness
  • Redevelopment vs. development
  • Design & appearance - needs to be clear as to what the city/community desires.
  • How do we define historical?
  • Seeking out technology and best practices from other cities and finding ways to incorporate them here.

The City Commission also were briefed on our new engagement platform - Engage DeLand, which you are on now!

The next scheduled meeting is for the Steering Committee organizational meeting at 6 p.m. February 22 at Chisholm Community Center.
