Beach Access #47, just before Eel Point, has been re-opened to beach driving due to the fledging of protected bird species. State and federal guidelines necessitate the closing of beaches to driving when unfledged chicks are present.
The chicks are monitored daily and once they are able to fly, driving restrictions are lifted.
The beach can be driven on via Emergency Access Number 47. Eel Point is private property and managed independently from the Town. Inquiries regarding the opening of Eel Point should be directed to the Nantucket Conservation Foundation. A beach driving permit is required to drive onto Eel Point. Please keep pets leashed and respect fencing in place to protect dune restoration areas.
