Hunt Highway Widening

Moving Florence Faster & Safer
If you’ve driven Hunt Highway during the morning or evening rush, you know the challenge firsthand. As the primary artery connecting Florence to the region, Hunt Highway is currently operating well beyond its original two-lane design capacity. Through the Florence Forward initiative, we are fast-tracking the transformation of this corridor from a bottleneck into a modern, multi-lane highway. This isn't just about adding asphalt; it’s about reducing your commute time so you can spend more time at home and less time in traffic.

What This Project Delivers:
Using the dedicated 1.0% Transportation Tax revenue, this project includes:

  • Capacity Expansion: Widening from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway to eliminate "crawl" conditions.
  • Enhanced Safety: Installation of a raised center median to prevent head-on collisions and manage turn movements.
  • Modern Intersections: Upgraded signaling and dedicated turn lanes at key junctions to keep the flow moving.
  • Better Lighting: Improved street lighting for increased visibility and safety during night-time travel.

Why It’s a Priority
Hunt Highway is the backbone of our 10-year, $150M Road Improvement Plan. By widening this corridor now, we are:

  • Future-Proofing: Preparing for the traffic increase from the new North Florence Industrial Hub.
  • Safety First: Reducing the frequency of accidents caused by congestion and limited passing opportunities.
  • Economic Vitality: Ensuring businesses can move goods and customers can reach Florence shops without delay.

Tracking Progress
We are committed to keeping you informed of every orange cone and mile of new pavement. Below, you can view the Project Timeline, see Current Work Zones, and sign up for SMS Traffic Alerts to stay ahead of construction delays.
