November 2023: New Design/Architect Team selected for design of new Our Island Home

SMRT Architects and Engineers was selected to be the OIH partner for this project. The SMRT team is be led by Craig Piper, Architect, Principal-In-Charge and Senior Living Design Expert, Richard Webb as Senior Project Manager and Landscape Architect, and Erin Anderson, Interior Designer, and Mark Rogers, Architect, will lead the team during the construction phase process. SMRT was selected by the selection committee because of the following criteria and extensive experience of their team:

1. SMRT has extensive knowledge of senior living design and execution with a significant experience with resident focused design.
2. SMRT is a 140-person firm and has the team to complete this project successfully and serve the residents of Nantucket well for many years to come.
3. SMRT, located in Andover, MA with tremendous knowledge of Nantucket through their completion of many successful projects on Nantucket over the past 12 years, the most significant being the Intermediate School. SMRT has completed 33 successful projects on Nantucket.
4. SMRT understands the nuance and complexity of not only designing projects but successfully permitting and guiding them through construction on Nantucket. In addition to local experience, they also have tremendous experience with successfully and seamlessly guiding projects through the Massachusetts Department of Public Health plans review process.
5. SMRT willingness to participate in community outreach and info the community about the project.
6. SMRT is committed to evaluating all aspects of sustainability and resilience and incorporating systems both actively and passively while aligned with the project’s budget.
7. SMRT team of design professionals that is entirely within our firm. Our professionals who are responsible for the design will lead construction administration, ensuring the owner’s intent will be maintained during construction and that issues are addressed in a timely manner. Recently having worked on a project with many similarities, we realized the benefit of architects and engineers working together under one roof to ensure team communication and coordination throughout the documents to successfully deliver a fast pace, complex project.
