Gun Locks at NODA District Stations

In a significant collaborative effort, the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) and the Office of Gun Violence Prevention are initiating a crucial step towards citizen safety. Distributing gun locks free of charge at all district stations starting July 15, 2022, this initiative acknowledges the necessity of securely storing firearms to mitigate the risk of accidents, particularly within homes with young children.

Our city has unfortunately faced numerous incidents due to improperly secured weapons lately, making this project more relevant than ever. While gun locks provide an added measure of security, it's essential to note that they might not work with all weapons. Therefore, consulting the manufacturer's instructions is urged for optimum safety. Furthermore, the NOPD continues to discourage citizens from storing weapons in their vehicles due to a substantial risk of theft, evidenced by numerous instances from earlier this year.
