Briercliff Park Improvements
Exciting enhancements are coming Briercliff neighborhood park, with plans for a brand-new playground with shade, spray park with shade, extended trails, and restroom facilities—designed to elevate outdoor experiences for our vibrant community.
Introduction
Briercliff Park is a 9.62-acre neighborhood park located at 3200 State School Rd. It currently has a basketball court, soccer fields, a pavillion, a playground, and .27-mile concrete walking trails.
The Denton Parks and Recreation Department is revitalizing the park and adding new features. A portion of the funding for this project comes from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's Local Parks Grant. The planned updates and improvements for the park will include a playground replacement with added shade, a new spray park with shade, a new restroom facility, extended parking lot, and a complete loop trail.
All park improvements are tentatively scheduled for completion in Fall of 2027.

Consultant Hired
On May 17, 2022, City Council approved the professional services agreement with John R McAdams Company, Incorporated, with a (7 - 0) vote (Ordinance 22-986).
Virtual Community Meeting
On September 1, 2022 the Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) held a virtual community meeting to gather feedback from the public regarding the feedback from the public regarding the proposed designs.
Parks, Recreation, and Beautification Board Meeting
On October 3, 2022, PARD presented the results and final conceptual design to the Parks, Recreation, and Beautification Board for general discussion. The Board provided the following feedback:
- Add more trees
- Consider adding a second pavilion
- Continue to reach out to the community for input
Approval (5-0)
City Council - Master Plan Approval
On January 24,2023, City Council approved 7-0 for the Briercliff Master Plan (Ordinance 23-110)
City Council - TPWD Grant Program
On July 25, 2023, PARD requested approval to apply for the 2024 Local Park Grant for $750,000 from Texas Parks and Wildlife. City Council approved 7-0 (Ordinance 23-1405)
