Parks and Trails naming Policy Overview and Requests for 2025
Every so often, City of Denton receives applications to name specific facilities or properties owned by the City. Many of these applications are from the public, seeking to honor someone by naming a facility after them. City staff may also submit applications for naming, for example, when a new piece of park land is developed and the park needs an official name.
The City has an established process for park naming (see Naming Policy Documents in the menu to the right on this screen). That policy allows Council to task an ad hoc committee to consider naming applications when the City has an actionable number to consider. Historically, Council has allowed the Parks, Recreation, and Beautification Board to serve as the committee considering applications and recommending action on each application to Council. The ultimate power to approve or deny a naming application belongs to the City Council.
