Pecan Creek Drainage Master Plan

The Pecan Creek Stormwater Master Plan is a watershed-wide effort to better understand drainage conditions, identify current and potential future flood risks, and develop a long-term strategy for improving the City’s stormwater system. The plan will evaluate both the condition of existing drainage infrastructure and how stormwater moves through the Pecan Creek watershed to identify areas where improvements may be needed to reduce flood risk, address aging infrastructure, and support safe and sustainable growth.

As part of the study, the City will use computer modeling to evaluate how the drainage system performs during a range of storm events and identify areas that may be susceptible to flooding. The study will also evaluate potential improvements in up to ten priority areas. Potential solutions may include improvements to storm drains or channels, detention, parallel drainage systems, or other measures. These conceptual improvements will be evaluated based on their anticipated benefits, costs, implementation risks, and environmental considerations.

The plan will also establish a framework for evaluating the condition of the City’s stormwater infrastructure and prioritizing future inspection, rehabilitation, replacement, and maintenance needs. This will help the City make informed, data-driven decisions about where to focus resources and how to sustain the drainage system over the long term.

Public input is an important part of the planning process. Residents’ experiences and observations regarding flooding and drainage concerns will help the City better understand community needs and inform the evaluation of potential improvements. Ultimately, the Pecan Creek Stormwater Master Plan will provide the City with a roadmap for prioritizing future investments and strengthening the watershed’s stormwater system for the safety, resilience, and continued growth of the community.
