US 380 Lighting

Join us in exploring how enhanced lighting along US-380/University Drive is paving the way for safer travel and a brighter future, as we implement modern standards and address the needs of our growing community.

Introduction

US-380/University Drive serves as a vital arterial corridor in Denton, connecting neighborhoods, businesses, and regional destinations. To enhance safety and visibility along this high-traffic roadway, the City of Denton is taking steps to install continuous street lighting from I-35E to Mayhill Road. This effort aligns with updated lighting standards established by Denton Municipal Electric (DME) and adheres to Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) guidelines, ensuring compliance for this state-managed roadway. Through strategic planning and collaboration, the City is committed to improving travel conditions for both motorists and pedestrians.

Building on years of careful study and planning, this initiative represents a significant milestone in Denton’s pursuit of safer and more accessible infrastructure. After conducting initial cost analyses and technical evaluations, feasibility findings were presented to the City Council, and the project was included in the 2019 voter-approved Bond Program. As we move forward, the active input of residents remains critical to shaping the future of this corridor. Public engagement opportunities will allow Denton residents to share their perspectives, ensuring that community priorities are reflected in the completion of this important upgrade.
