Landscape Code Amendments

Explore Denton’s Development Code proposed amendments to the Landscape Code – an effort to review and improve regulations as it relates to water conservation. In addition to changes related to water conservation, staff has identified areas within the landscape standards for revision to meet industry best practices, improve clarity, and simplify implementation of the regulations for applicable development.

Overview

The Denton Development Code (DDC) determines the standards which new development projects must meet prior to building. The Landscape portion of the DDC plays a central role in establishing standards which enhance the beauty and ecological function of the City of Denton. Requirements contained in this section include topics such as: required percentage of landscaped area, tree canopy coverage, parking lot landscaping, recommended species, installation standards, among others.

As part of the 2025 Water Conservation Plan, Planning Staff were tasked with reviewing current landscaping standards, looking for opportunities to encourage water-wise landscaping within the City. As part of this ongoing process, Staff are conducting public engagement, informing the citizens of Denton about our process and proposed revisions.
