Washington Street in Dunedin Stormwater Drainage to be updated.

Washington Street Flooding

Overview

Our goal is to improve street stormwater drainage along Washington Street. This project focuses on the paved section between Broadway (ALT 19) and the unpaved portion to the west. This area frequently floods due to its low elevation and lack of proper drainage, relying solely on slow infiltration. The proposed improvements include installing a drainage inlet that connects to the adjacent FDOT stormwater pond, adding curbing, and reconstructing the paved portion of the street.

Why this is Important

This project resolved the previous roadway flooding by installing a new curb inlet to capture runoff and direct it into the adjacent FDOT pond. In addition, the entire street was reconstructed with a new road base, fresh asphalt paving, and new concrete curbs designed to channel water efficiently into the storm drain system.

This effort supports Dunedin as the premier coastal community by enhancing public infrastructure in a key coastal area. It also aligns to serve as a statewide model for environmental sustainability stewardship, by incorporating sustainable stormwater solutions that protect our natural resources and community well-being.
