Pickleball Courts Coming to Freedom Park

Pickleball Court Construction at Freedom Park

About

The City of Edgewood is blessed to have two major parks, Presidents and Freedom. These two parks have many amenities in them from baseball/softball fields, basketball courts, playgrounds, tennis courts and walking trails. Presidents Park does have Pickleball court lines drawn on the tennis courts but stand-alone Pickleball Courts are non-existent. With the demand growing and no signs of it slowing in the near future the City has decided to build 3-4 stand-alone Pickleball Courts in Freedom Park next to our Liberty Hall Event Center.

The new courts will have shaded benches for each court and a six foot tall fence surrounding the courts. Our plan is to build at least 3 courts, the 4th court could be an option depending on total construction cost. We are also reviewing the option of installing lights around the courts for evening play.

While preparing to play Pickleball at Freedom Park you can warmup on the walking trail outlining the park. The walking trail will be upgraded to have a rubberized surface for a softer blow to the joints while walking or jogging. This upgrade will also make the path more accessible to those using the path.

Pickleball is fast growing and all generations are participating. Some like it, some don't. Communities are struggling to build courts to meet the demand. Some residents are upset at the noise created by pickleball. Let us know what you are thinking when you hear the word "Pickleball".
