The Climate Change Citizens' Panel session 5

Purpose of day five
To support panel members in finalising their climate action recommendations for Elmbridge Borough Council by:
reflecting on their journey and drafting a collective statement summarising their experience and conclusions
refining and validating recommendations across key themes (transport, housing, green spaces and other areas)
engaging in collaborative review and prioritisation
exploring next steps, including how recommendations may be used to influence decision-makers and opportunities for continued involvement
celebrating the panel’s work, acknowledging contributions and preparing for the final report
Addressing the overarching question:
"What steps can we take locally to address climate change and protect the environment?"
What was covered as part of the journey
Panel members explored four key topics, each supported by expert talks and discussions:
Developing recommendations
In the final session, panel members took the lead in drafting and refining recommendations for Elmbridge Borough Council, with guidance and facilitation provided by Shared Future. Additionally, they considered and drafted recommendations for MPs with support from Hope for the Future.
What happens next
Panel members are now working to prioritise and refine the draft recommendations which will form the report to Elmbridge Borough Council.
Recommendations will then go through the council’s decision-making process and be presented at Cabinet in the new year. We’ll share updates as things progress.
