Catalina Regional Park

The Flood Control District is excited to share an opportunity to help shape the future of a treasured regional asset along the Canada del Oro Wash. This 260-acre area has been thoughtfully managed as open space and designated for passive recreation, serving as a natural refuge for both wildlife and local residents.

Following the 2003 Aspen Fire, the Flood Control District took proactive measures to address increased flood risk, including the acquisition of 200 acres of flood-prone properties, removal of structures, and management of the land to establish a resource-rich park that balances ecological preservation with community enjoyment. Over the years, the Flood Control District has further enhanced this space by acquiring additional flood-prone parcels, maintaining firebreak trails, enhancing wildlife features, and supporting equestrian pastimes through the provision of drinkers for horses.

Now, Flood Control is embarking on the next phase of planning for this regional asset and invite you to help shape its future. Your input and insights will be important contributions to envision how to best protect, improve, and utilize this natural park. Together, this shared space can meet the diverse needs of our community while honoring its environmental significance. Due to the purpose of the high flood hazards within the natural resource park, it is not possible to provide urban park features, ATVs, hunting, or significant building of new structures and anticipate primarily passive uses and riparian habitat enhancement.
