Protecting Communities: Fire Fuels Reduction on the White River Wildlife Area
The Oregon Department of Forestry, with the support of the U.S. Forest Service's Community Wildfire Defense Grant Program and in collaboration with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, is undertaking a vital fuels reduction effort across more than 800 acres within the White River Wildlife Area. This initiative is scheduled from Summer 2025 - Fall of 2029 and is focused on reducing hazardous vegetation and creating protective fire buffers to slow the spread of fast-moving wildfires, safeguarding both the natural environment and the communities of South Wasco County. By proactively managing fire risks, this work reflects our commitment to protecting lives, property, and shared resources in the face of escalating wildfire challenges.
