17th Avenue South Reconstruction (BR-27-G1)

17th Avenue South Reconstruction (BR-27-G1)

This project is to improve the aging infrastructure of 17th Avenue South from 25th Street South to University Drive S

Project Overview
This project includes the removal and replacement of the existing water main and water services, sanitary sewer services, asphalt pavement, concrete curb and gutter, sidewalks, and driveway aprons. The storm sewer system will also be upgraded to increase capacity and improve drainage throughout the corridor.

Impacts
Construction will be completed in phases to reduce disruptions and maintain as much local access as possible.

Timeline
Construction is anticipated to begin in Summer 2027, with all roads reopened by Fall 2027.

Purpose
The existing asbestos water main will be replaced to remove asbestos pipe from the water system. The storm sewer system currently lacks adequate capacity, so storm pipes will be upsized to improve performance. Street reconstruction is necessary due to pavement deterioration beyond its service life. In addition, a new shared‑use path will extend the active transportation network and provide connections to multiple nearby schools.
