Relocating the Hawthorne / Clara Barton Recycling Drop Site

The City of Fargo’s recycling drop site near the Water Treatment Plant will be removed in spring 2026 to allow for the construction of critical flood protection infrastructure. The City is considering relocating the drop site to 12th Avenue South and 5th Street South (see the map below), and we’re asking residents who live nearby for their input.

Introduction

For more than 25 years, the City of Fargo has provided a recycling and yard waste drop site near the Water Treatment Plant in the Hawthorne/Clara Barton neighborhood.

As part of planned flood protection improvements, including the construction of a levee, the current drop site will need to be relocated. After evaluating several alternatives, we have identified a potential new location at 12th Avenue South and 5th Street South (see map below).

The City’s goal is to maintain a convenient recycling option for this area. However, if this proposed location is not supported, there will not be a replacement drop site in this neighborhood for the foreseeable future.

We welcome your input on whether this proposed location would serve as an effective solution for the neighborhood.
