Proposed Recycling Drop Site in Hawthorne-Clara Barton

The City of Fargo’s recycling drop site near the Water Treatment Plant was removed in spring 2026 to allow for the construction of a flood levee. The City is considering creating a new drop site at 12th Avenue South and 5th Street South (see the map below), and we’re asking residents who live nearby for their input.

Introduction

For more than 25 years, the City of Fargo provided a recycling and yard waste drop site near the Water Treatment Plant in the Hawthorne-Clara Barton neighborhood. In spring 2026, the drop site was removed to allow for the construction of critical flood infrastructure.

After evaluating several alternatives, the City has identified a potential new location for a drop site at 12th Avenue South and 5th Street South (see the map below).

The City’s goal is to maintain a convenient recycling option for this area. However, if the proposed location is not supported, there will not be a replacement drop site in this neighborhood for the foreseeable future.

We welcome your input on whether this proposed location would serve as an effective solution for the neighborhood.
