Fire Station 2
About
The City of Gainesville is constructing a new 7,008-square-foot fire station (Station 2) at 2010 E. Broadway Street to better serve the community and provide an updated facility for its firefighters. The new station emphasizes safety, efficiency, and the well-being of its personnel, incorporating design features and advanced equipment.
Key Features:
Facility Design:
- Two-bay fire station with a wood frame, masonry veneer, and a standing seam metal roof.
- Designed with firefighter safety in mind, separating living areas from potentially harmful diesel exhaust and carcinogens.
- Backup generator to ensure operational continuity during emergencies.
Living and Functional Spaces:
- Kitchen: Considered the heart of the firehouse, with exhaust and suppression systems, three separate pantries, and refrigerators for each shift. Includes an adjacent patio grilling area. Stove and Grill are connected to an automatic gas shut-off to activate when tones go off.
- Bedrooms: Three individual bunk rooms, designed for privacy, better rest, and future growth, with room to add additional beds if needed.
- Fitness Room: Equipped to promote health and wellness among firefighters.
Safety Enhancements:
- Diesel Exhaust Removal System: A vehicle exhaust extraction system that engages automatically to remove harmful carcinogens.
- Positive Air Pressure Vestibules: These separate the apparatus bay from the living areas to prevent exhaust infiltration.
- Bunker Gear Storage: Located away from living spaces, this room includes a mechanical exhaust fan to mitigate contamination.
