Fire Training Facility

The Gulf Shores Fire Department is building a new firefighter training facility to ensure our team continues to meet the highest standards of service and safety. The previous facility, located at the Gulf Shores Utilities treatment plant, was recently demolished after exceeding its useful life.

A modern training facility is essential for the City to maintain its prestigious ISO Class 1 Rating—a distinction held by only 1% of fire departments nationwide. Out of roughly 45,000 fire departments across the country, just 329 have achieved this rating. The rigorous training and preparation required to earn and sustain this classification demonstrate Gulf Shores’ commitment to excellence in public safety.

Location
The new facility will be constructed on City‑owned property at the west end of West 36th Avenue. This site is centrally located to Gulf Shores’ fire stations and is bordered by Aventura to the north, City property to the south, Baldwin County to the west, and Magnolia Bay Apartments and the Lake PUD to the east. A future connector road is planned along the east property line between West 36th Avenue and Waterway West, further improving accessibility.

Facility Features
The proposed training complex will include:

  • Live Fire Training Building
  • Combat Training Tower
  • Confined Space Training Building
  • Trench Rescue Apparatus
  • Covered pavilion for outdoor classroom instruction
