In 2025, the Town of Hinton replaced the Alder Park Playground as it had reached the end of its operational life.

What type of playground was needed?

In 2019, ISL Engineering and Land Services created a Parks, Open Space and Trails Master Plan (POST) for the Town of Hinton. Community feedback was incorporated in creating the POST and that plan now dictates which amenities are constructed at each park.

Alder Park is a neighbourhood park which POST describes as:
"can be tot lots, decorative parks, and ornamental parks that service town needs at the neighborhood level. These parks are generally smaller in nature and can include a mix of passive and active program".

You decided which playground was constructed

In June 2025, G.L.V. Travellers Inc. (an external contractor) was selected to build the new playground. They provided two potential playground designs (Twister and Castle).

A survey was conducted from late June to early July 2025, and 76% of the 378 respondents preferred the Twister design over the Castle design.

The Twister design includes a large play system for ages 5 to 12.

• A Triple Twister Slide
• A Crawl-Netix for strength and co-ordination
• A Lunar Net Wall for adventurous climbers
• Ramp-accessible play area filled with interactive games
• Bumming steps
• A dedicated toddler zone with a scaled-down structure of climbers, a slide, and an interactive panel
• Freestanding play elements, including a Bucket Spinner, Tyke Seesaw, and Toddler Tractor.

Beside the main structure is a swing set with two side-by-side belt swings and a PlayShare seat, allowing adults and toddlers to swing together.

Everything is built to meet accessibility standards, and the layout flows well for supervision and ease of use.

The new playground was installed in November 2025 and is now ready for use!
