Wildfire Hazard Reduction Work Begins - South Hinton Fireguard Project
South Fireguard Mulching Project
South Fireguard Mulching Project Begins in Hinton
Hinton’s fireguard is being reinforced as mulching the South Fireguard begins— a key step in reducing wildfire risks to our community.
This work will re-treat 58.2 hectares of overgrown fireguard originally constructed in 2009. The project includes stumping, removal of dense regrowth, and low-depth mulching to limit future wildfire intensity while preserving soil health and avoiding excessive fuel buildup.
Crews will take special care to protect environmentally sensitive areas, including buffers along Happy Creek and Hardisty Creek. No FireSmart™ activity will occur within 30 metres of these watercourses.
Residents may notice equipment and crews south of town in the coming weeks. We appreciate your cooperation and awareness as this essential work is carried out.
