Hey Neighbour!

Knock, Knock

Looking for a simple, meaningful way to connect with your neighbours and build a stronger community? You’re in the right place!

The Revitalizing Neighbour Connections Through Giving Project is all about sparking kindness, reducing loneliness, and creating a sense of belonging—one neighbour at a time. Whether you’re new to Hinton or have called it home for years, this is your chance to reach out, build new relationships, and make a positive impact right where you live.

We’re excited to offer free Neighbourhood Connection Kits to help you get started. Each kit includes helpful ideas, mental health resources, and $30 in #HintonFirst Bucks—yours to use toward a small gift or gesture for a neighbour. It’s a simple way to brighten someone’s day and strengthen the ties that make our community thrive.

Let’s work together to build a more connected, welcoming Hinton—because everyone deserves to feel like they belong.

Where to Get Your Neighbourhood Connection Kit - Starting July 23, 2025

The Importance of Connection
Connecting with your neighbours is crucial for fostering a sense of community and enhancing overall well-being. Building strong relationships with those who live nearby creates a support network that can be invaluable in times of need, whether during emergencies or personal difficulties. It also contributes to a safer neighbourhood, as neighbours who know each other are more likely to look out for one another and report suspicious activities.

Additionally, forming bonds with neighbours can lead to a more enjoyable and fulfilling living environment, with opportunities for social interactions, shared activities, and collaborative problem-solving. This sense of belonging and mutual support not only enhances individual happiness but also strengthens the social fabric of the community, making it a more resilient and cohesive place to live. However, neighbourly connections do not happen by accident — it’s up to all of us to reach out, connect, and foster relationships that last.

Getting Started
Feeling connected is essential to community well-being, yet people are spending less time building face-to-face relationships, especially with diverse populations. In Hinton, shift work, long hours, and out-of-town jobs make it challenging to connect with neighbours. Additionally, our community has grown more diverse, with over 200 foreign workers arriving through the Rural Renewal Stream and many displaced Jasper residents relocating to Hinton after last year’s wildfires. It is paramount that we welcome our new neighbours through connection.

Building a Sense of Community in Hinton
As someone who cares about your neighbourhood and makes efforts to bring neighbours together, you understand the value of knowing and being connected to one another. A strongly connected neighbourhood fosters a sense of belonging, improves personal safety, provides mental and emotional support and helps children and youth thrive. The relationships that grow from our neighbour-to-neighbour connections help us understand and celebrate our similarities and differences so that the diversity in all our neighbourhoods is embraced and celebrated. Everyone feels welcome!
By becoming a Neighbourhood Connector, you are joining a larger community effort that aims to build a sense of community and connectedness on every street, apartment and condominium complex in Hinton.
