In 2022, Lake Stevens residents passed the Transportation Benefit Program (TBP) resolution, a sales tax used to fund new sidewalks, pavement preservation, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, and other improvements. Projects began to roll out in 2024, with several under construction in 2025, and others under design.

In addition to sidewalk improvements, the TBP supports an annual pavement preservation program. The pavement preservation program occurs city wide, targeting the worst pavement conditions in collectors and arterials. Replaced and improved striping is done as well, improving marking visibility, potential to reduce traffic speeds, and decrease driver confusion.
