Travel to Work Survey

The 2022 survey ran between Monday 31 October and Friday 9 December 2022. .

Over 8,400 individual responses were received in 2022. The results offer an insight into the lasting impact COVID-19 on how people work, and how often they will commute to the workplace.

Almost 24% of those surveys were working from home, with around 75% of those responding indicating they will no longer go to their workplace 5 days a week, instead working a hybrid mix of home and workplace working.

When people do commute, they continue to predominantly travel to work by car by themselves (37.2%) which is slightly lower than 2021 and remains significantly lower than pre-pandemic levels.

Public Transport modes continue to recover but remains around 5% lower than pre-pandemic levels. Active modes including cycling and walking continue to be below pre-pandemic levels too.
