History tour showcases Morley's vibrant past

To celebrate the history and stories behind Morley's high street the Heritage Investment Fund, part of the Morley Town Deal, delivered a heritage walking tour over the August bank holiday weekend - hosted by local experts Morley Community Archives.

Attendees were given fascinating accounts of the people and buildings that make up the town centre's rich heritage, covering Morley’s prosperous and independent past, that was founded on technical innovation and the industrial growth of its many textile mills, and its local pride and strong sense of community shown in its civic, religious and commercial architecture - with many of those buildings recognised as nationally important by their listed status and conservation area designations.

The Heritage Investment Fund provides business and property owners in Morley with the opportunity to access grant funding to uplift and showcase prominent heritage buildings within the conservation area, many of which were visited during the tour.
