About the project

Park & Ride has already proven highly successful in reducing the number of cars travelling into the city centre each day. Park & Ride forms a key part of the Connecting Leeds strategy as it provides a range of benefits for the city:

1. Reduces congestion in the city centre: Travelling the last mile or two on a bus significantly helps reduce congestion and delays in the city centre where it is often worst, particularly during peak times.
2. Creates a more people focused city centre: Having fewer cars in the city centre frees up space for people, enabling us to create more healthy and liveable streets in which to move around, spend time and have fun.
3. Improves air quality: Fewer cars in the city centre will mean better air quality and improved public health. New buses to be introduced at the current Park & Ride sites will be highly fuel efficient and far less polluting.
4. Boosts the economy: Park & Ride sites can make accessing the city centre easier, cheaper, faster and more enjoyable, all of which encourages people to work in, shop in or visit Leeds.
5. Adds to a resilient and flexible system: When we hold big events in the city centre or when major construction projects are underway, Park & Ride sites can give car drivers a viable, efficient and cheap alternative route into the city.

Features of the Elland Road Park & Ride

• First opened in 2014 - ideally located on the road network with access from the M621 motorway.
• Initially 420 spaces, the site was previously extended to the current 800 spaces in 2016.
• Facilities include CCTV, a heated passenger waiting room, baby changing and a passenger information desk.
• Bus lanes, smart traffic lights and limited stop services help deliver quick and reliable journey times into the city centre.
• Free to park and prices start from as little as £2 per day for a return bus journey (up to 3 children go free per fare paying adult).
• Fleet of modern buses operating from early morning into the evening. All the buses have leather seats and WiFi on board.
• High levels of customer satisfaction. When surveyed, over 99% of customers said they would recommend it to a friend.
